BOC–Port of Davao Joins PNP-BARMM in Major Illicit Cigarette Recovery in Maguindanao del Norte

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) – Port of Davao worked alongside the Philippine National Police – Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PNP-BARMM) in the recovery of 2,483 master cases of illicit cigarettes with an estimated value of P106,232,672 at Sitio Lanzones, Barangay Gumagadong Calawag, Parang, Maguindanao del Norte on 06-07 January 2026.

The operation was initiated following information received by the local authorities about the suspected storage of illicit cigarettes in a warehouse in the area. No contraband was initially found inside the facility, although authorities noticed disturbed and excavated soil nearby, leading to the discovery that the cigarettes had been buried t o conceal them from detection. The seized cigarettes were then turned over to the BOC for issuance o f Warrant of Seizure and Detention for violation o f Sections 117, 400 and 113 o f Republic Act No. 10863, otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

The operation highlights intensified inter-agency coordination and enforcement efforts against illicit trade, protecting government revenue and public welfare.

“This operation shows what we can accomplish when government agencies work hand in hand,” said Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno. “For me, it’s not just about seizing contraband—it’s about sending a clear message that illegal trade has no place in our communities. I’m proud of our officers and our partners in the PNP-BARMM for their commitment to protecting the people and the country’s revenue.”

The BOC under the leadership of Commissioner Nepomuceno reiterates its commitment to strengthen border protection and combating the proliferation of illicit trade to safeguard government revenue and public welfare.
