Employment rates rise among tech-voc graduates

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has released the results of its 2024 Study on the Employment of TVET Graduates (SETG) which shows a significant rise in the employability of technical vocational education and training (TVET) graduates.

The 2024 SETG revealed that the employment rate of tech-voc graduates rose to 83.34%, marking a significant increase from the previous year’s 79%.

According to TESDA Secretary Kiko Benitez, this improvement underscores the effectiveness of TESDA’s programs in equipping Filipinos with market-relevant skills and creating pathways to sustainable livelihoods.

“TESDA is committed to ensuring that every Filipino has access to training that leads to meaningful employment. These results reaffirm the importance of our initiatives, from micro-credentials and digital training to enterprise-based education and training, in preparing a future-ready workforce,” Secretary Kiko said.

The study, which surveyed 6,344 TVET graduates from calendar year 2023 between October 2024 and January 2025, also showed that female TVET graduates recorded a higher employment rate of 85.67% compared to 81.23% among male graduates.

Regionally, Central Luzon (Region III) topped the list with a 90.07% employment rate, followed by CALABARZON (Region IV-A) with 88.91%, and Northern Mindanao (Region X) with 88.53%. These figures underscore the role of TVET in bridging education and industry needs across diverse regions.

Conducted annually, the SETG evaluates graduates’ employment status, income levels, and career progression to guide policy decisions and program enhancements.

The 2024 results emphasize TESDA’s efforts to expand access to flexible learning pathways, strengthen digital platforms like the TESDA Online Program, and promote enterprise-based education and training to keep training relevant to industry standards.

Further, the agency is also prioritizing reskilling and upskilling initiatives to prepare workers for opportunities in the digital economy and emerging industries.

“As industries evolve, TESDA must remain agile. We are strengthening our data-driven approach, investing in emerging skills, and working closely with local and international partners to ensure that TVET graduates are ready for the opportunities of tomorrow,” the TESDA chief added.
