Largest Kadiwa market in the country to rise in Parañaque: Mayor Olivarez

Paranaque City will soon be home to the “largest Kadiwa Market in the Philippines.”

This, according to Mayor “Kuya” Edwin L. Olivarez, during the Flag Raising ceremony at the Treasury Foyer of the Parañaque City Hall Executive Building on Sept. 15.

Dubbed “Baclaran Gateway Market,” it will be a new trade center that aims to strengthen the trade activities in the city, while providing support, through permanent spaces, for at least 2,000 to 3,000 vendors, who are at risk of paying penalties for illegally occupying the sidewalk intended for pedestrians in Barangay Baclaran.

(What we are doing now is simply maintaining control with order. We cannot take away their livelihood since thousands depend on it. But it must be in order. We have the police and a task force managing the situation so that everything is organized, including for our visitors, both local and foreign, who come to our National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help.)

He added that the new location of the 10,000-square-meter trade center, situated beside the LRT 1 Redemptorist-Aseana Station, will be more accessible to consumers, given its proximity to economic and transportation hubs, and will likely attract more investors.

(These efforts have already been in place for a long time—our Kadiwa Market here in the City of Parañaque, through our Consumer Welfare Office—so that we can bring all the basic goods closer to all of our 16 barangays, especially the produce coming from the provinces.)

“Para po, ma-kontrol natin ‘yung presyo [ng mga bilihin] at fresh na fresh ‘yung [mga produce] at ma-deliver po natin sa bawat tahanan dito sa lungsod,” positioning the city in a place of competitive advantage,” Olivarez assured.

(This is to help control the prices of goods and ensure that fresh produce can be delivered to every household in the city.
