Parañaque 2nd District Representative Brian Raymund Yamsuan has welcomed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr’s commitment to fully support the digitalization of local government processes as a means to deliver more responsive, transparent and efficient services to the public.
Yamsuan said digitalization at the local government level would also spur economic growth in the regions, with streamlined business applications attracting more investors and micro enterprises benefiting from the use of digital platforms to expand their market reach.
“Nasa likod tayo at buo ang ating suporta sa Pangulong BBM sa kanyang hangarin na ma-digitalize and mga proseso sa lokal na pamahalaan. Digitalization will be a game-changer for our local government units (LGUs), especially now when almost every aspect of our life involves transacting online. Our LGUs need to be able to catch up in this fast-evolving technological landscape,” said Yamsuan, a former assistant secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
(We are behind and fully support President BBM’s goal of digitalizing local government processes.).
According to a statement from the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), President Marcos has assured local officials during a recent “meet and greet” with them of his administration’s continued support, especially on programs focused on “disaster preparedness, peace and order and the digitalization of local government processes.”
Yamsuan said LGUs should be ready to equip their personnel with the necessary skills and knowledge on the use of digital technology to improve the delivery of support and services to the people.
Embracing digitalization will help LGUs cut costs by reducing paperwork and other administrative burdens, and when used efficiently, can provide real-time data access that local executives can use to make quicker and more informed decision-making, Yamsuan said.
Yamsuan said digital tools, such as data analytics, can also assist LGUs in identifying growth opportunities and understanding economic trends to tailor policies that will boost their local economies.
The people, in turn, can easily gain access to information, enjoy faster and efficient delivery of public services, and participate more in local governance through digitalization.
Yamsuan said digitalization also complements the President’s commitments to support LGU programs on disaster preparedness and peace and order.
“Digitalization unlocks many opportunities, from helping curb crime and boosting public trust and confidence in our law enforcers, to making our communities safe through early warning systems and other technologies that improve disaster prevention and preparedness,” Yamsuan said.
Yamsuan recalled that last year, the President led the launching of the first phase of the government’s National Fiber Backbone Project NFBP), which when completed, will ibring reliable internet connectivity to an initial batch of 346 national and local government offices across at least 14 provinces in Northern and Central Luzon, two National Government Data Centers, and four economic zones of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA). The President has said that he expects completion of the next phases of the NFBP in 2026.
“The President has long demonstrated that he is ready to back his commitment with concrete action. Inadequate infrastructure is among the challenges that LGUs face as they move towards digitalization, which the Marcos administration has already started to address,” Yamsuan said.
