The Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1), Line 2 (LRT-2) and the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) are offering free rides for all passengers on the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) during the 128th celebration of Philippine Independence on June 12.
All three rail services will offer free rides during the peak hours from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on June 12.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) — the operator of the LRT-1 — said the line traverses several historical locations and cultural destinations in Metro Manila, hence it was dubbed the “Heritage Line.”
“The free ride initiative aims to make it easier for the public to join Independence Day festivities and visit cultural and tourist spots near stations, allowing Filipinos to reconnect with the nation’s rich history,” the LRMC said.
To avail of the promo, passengers with Beep cards will simply need to tap their cards at the turnstiles as usual and will not be charged.
On the other hand, passengers with no Beep cards may claim free single journey tickets at teller booths.
The Philippine Independence Day is a national regular holiday and marked by official flag-raising ceremonies, parades and other cultural events nationwide.
The day is a celebration of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo’s official declaration of Philippine Independence at his home in Kawit, Cavite, and is the first time the Philippine flag was officially unfurled.
