Surging demand for OFWs in the Middle East and European countries have
contributed increased deployment to One Million workers compared to
Six Hundred Thousand (680,000) to the 2022.
A recent announcement from Department of Migrant Workers Under sectary Patricia Cuanan that the DMW has already deployed One Million workers for this year 2023 and expects to surpass 2019 pre-pandemic data. Usec Cuanan also disclosed that the DMW has accredited job orders with 20 European countries with a total demand of 30,000 OFWs for healthcare professionals and numerous positions for skilled workers with the European countries.
Saudi Arabia multi-billion dollar construction projects and diversification of the
economic activities have pushed demand for more Filipino skilled workers with
steady demand for Household Service Workers0s buoyed the rise price of crude
oil prices steady to 90 dollars per barre.
Other Middle East oil and gas revenues countries like Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Kuwait have Also increased their demand for OFWs notwithstanding a temporary ban for new
hires to Kuwait.
Numerous marketing missions by the private recruitment agencies led by the largest recruitment association have resulted in the huge demand for Filipino workers in several countries in Europe.
The growing demand for Filipino workers in Hungary, Croatia, Poland Austria Czheskolavia, Germany, Lithuania, Italy and Montenegro for 10,000 nurses and 20,000 Skilled workers have increased pressure on local private recruitment agencies who are complaining that thousands of vacancies in their job order remain open as the supply of qualified workers is drying up.
According to recruitment consultant and migration expert Emmanuel Geslani traditional labor markets of PRAs in the Middle East and other parts of Asia are having a difficult time in attracting healthcare professionals and skilled workers like ship yard positions to fill up their vacancies.
The country is losing out to India and Vietnam in the supply of workers to traditional labor markets like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar due to the lower salaries acceptable tp the workers and less stringent regulations in the processing of the workers.
Another reason more Filipinos want to work in Europe is the possibility of being given Permanent resident status and moving their families to the host country aside from the higher wages given by the European countries.
Nurses are still the most sought professional positions in the UISA, Canada, Middle East and
npw some European countries too.
European countries like Austria have started to accept registered nurses from the Philippines aside from Germany which has been acquiring Filipino nurse since 2012. Italy has also expressed their desire to get Filipino nurses however supply is very tight despite the recent19,000 nurse which passed the latest licensure exams.
A minimum of two years experience is required by US and European hospitals and the current low salaries of nurses in private hospitals are driving these nurses to leave abroad.
