The House of Representatives has fully approved the proposed ₱10.202 billion budget for the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) in 2026 after budget deliberations this October 2.
The budget proposal was sponsored on the House floor by Trabaho Party-List Representative Johanne Bautista, who emphasized the vital role of the DMW in protecting the rights and welfare of Filipino migrant workers.
DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac expressed his gratitude to Congresswoman Bautista and members of Congress for their support of the agency’s budget. He assured lawmakers and the public that the funds entrusted to the DMW will be maximized for the protection, empowerment, and upliftment of OFWs worldwide.
With Congress’ strong support, the DMW is more committed than ever to providing responsive, timely, and meaningful services to our modern-day heroes,” Cacdac said.
The DMW assured Congress that the 2026 budget will prioritize strengthening Migrant Workers Offices (MWOs) abroad, establishing OFW helpdesks nationwide, and expanding training opportunities for Filipino seafarers through the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP).
These measures are expected to offer frontline support and enhance the competitiveness of Filipino workers in the global market.
The DMW also pledged to strengthen its campaign against illegal recruitment and human trafficking, improve access to legal assistance for distressed OFWs, and ensure proper use of the AKSYON Fund for distressed OFWs.
Current reintegration programs for returning OFWs will also be strengthened, along with initiatives for the welfare of OFW children and families left behind, which are also part of the priorities for 2026.
