Ridon: New Evidence Found vs. VP Duterte

The House prosecution panel will submit a fresh piece of evidence in the upcoming pre-trial conference for the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, one of the impeachment prosecutors said on Friday.

Bicol Saro Representative Terry Ridon said they had found “numerous” pieces of “personal properties” of the vice president that were listed in certain government agencies, but were not declared under her statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth.

“These are personal properties. These are not real properties. But ito po ay papasok pa rin doon sa milyon-milyong pisong halaga,” Ridon said in an online press conference.

The prosecution panel will reach out to a valuation expert to determine the estimated value of these properties, the lawmaker said.

Duterte, who was impeached by the lower house on May 11, was accused, among others, of misusing confidential funds and threatening Pres. Bongbong Marcos. The vice president has maintained the articles of impeachment against her are “constitutionally infirm,” and that the allegations against her are baseless.

In a notice to the parties sent early this week, Sen. Win Gatchalian said the pre-trial conference will be held on June 18. Gatchalian, who was elected Senate president pro tempore last week, was named presiding officer of the impeachment court in the notice.

Duterte and the prosecution panel were also given until June 15 to submit their pre-trial briefs.
