06 OCTOBER 2025 – As this year’s official host of the National Maritime Week, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) and maritime stakeholders marked the conclusion of the 2025 National Maritime Week through a wellness run and by planting seeds of a more resilient future, all in collaboration with the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), for two culminating events that underscored the sectors’ commitment to sustainability, wellness, and unity.
Around 1,000 tindalo and molave seedlings were planted on October 3, 2025, across a one-hectare site at the La Mesa Watershed in Fairview, Quezon City. The activity, held in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-CENRO), gathered around 120 maritime volunteers from the participating agencies.
One of the culminating activities also included a Maritime Fun Run at the SM Mall of Asia By the Bay. Runners from the PPA, MARINA, and PCG joined the activity, which promoted health and wellness while fostering camaraderie and public awareness of the industry’s role in economic growth and nation-building.
PPA General Manager Jay Santiago expressed appreciation to all participants and partners for their active involvement, emphasizing that these activities not only reflect the agency’s enduring commitment to environmental stewardship but also align with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call to integrate tree planting into flood control and climate resiliency measures.
PPA formally turned over the lead role of hosting the 2026 National Maritime Week to MARINA while reaffirming its commitment to advancing sustainable development, strengthening stakeholder collaboration, and enhancing the maritime sector’s contribution to inclusive progress and climate resiliency.
