Hualien, Taiwan – Over 500 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Hualien County, Taiwan, received support from an outreach mission organized by the Migrant Workers Office (MWO)–Taipei, in partnership with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Social Security System (SSS), and the Pag-IBIG Fund Taipei on October 26, 2025. This event brought essential government services closer to OFWs in one of Taiwan’s most remote areas.
The MWO and OWWA Taipei distributed a total of NTD 416,800 (Php 805,598) in financial assistance under the AKSYON Fund to 14 OFWs affected by Typhoon Ragasa, which caused flooding in Hualien County last September 23, along with medical aid to one OFW.
MWO Taipei also facilitated OEC issuance, OFW Travel Pass assistance, e-registration account services, and contract updates for 22 OFWs. Meanwhile, OWWA Taipei processed 118 membership renewals, extended Welfare Assistance Program support to 10 OFWs, and updated the records of two others. Representatives from SSS and Pag-IBIG Fund likewise provided assistance on membership, contribution, and benefit concerns.
Furthermore, MWO Taipei stressed that the outreach aims to help OFWs who have difficulty traveling to Taipei for government services, reaffirming its dedication to protect and support Filipino migrant workers across Taiwan—consistent with the DMW’s response to President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.’s directive to bring government services closer to Filipinos both here and abroad.
