Senator Risa Hontiveros is reportedly preparing to lead the opposition in the 2028 national elections.
This follows the statement of former Vice President and now Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo that she has no plans to run again for a national position.
In an interview with DWIZ, Hontiveros said she is seriously considering becoming the opposition’s standard bearer.
“I am preparing, and as I said, I am open to it—seriously considering it,” the senator said.
Hontiveros also expressed gratitude to former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV for his party’s endorsement of her as a potential presidential candidate in 2028.
Although she said their group will still make a final decision, she thanked the former senator regardless of the outcome.
However, if Robredo changes her mind and considers running for the presidency in 2028, Hontiveros said the most popular candidate should prevail as the opposition’s standard bearer.
She added that if it turns out Robredo is the choice of the majority of Filipinos, she would fully support her.
