The Senate has at least P26 million from its 2025 budget available to fund a possible impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, according to Senate’s President Pro-Tempore Panfilo Lacson.
Lacson said that about P500,000 was already spent during a previous impeachment attempt last year.
Senate records show that said earlier case was transmitted in February 2025 but was later archived after the Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional.
Lacson noted the funds remain usable under continuing appropriations, meaning the Senate is financially ready if a new trial proceeds.
Meanwhile, the House is set to decide whether there is probable cause for impeachment, with allegations against Duterte including corruption, misuse of confidential funds, and involvement in an alleged assassination plot.
