The Bureau of Customs (BOC) – Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), in coordination with partner law enforcement agencies, successfully conducted an interdiction operation at the International Arrival Area, NAIA Terminal 1, Pasay City on 6 May 2026, resulting in the arrest of two Filipino passengers and the seizure of suspected illegal drugs with an estimated value of ₱56.6 million.
The operation, conducted early in the day, led to the apprehension of two female Filipino arriving passengers from Cambodia.
Customs authorities discovered approximately 8,324 grams of white crystalline substance suspected to be Methamphetamine Hydrochloride, commonly known as “shabu,” concealed within two pieces of luggage.
The illegal substances were packed in improvised pouches made of carbon paper and packaging tape, and further concealed alongside coffee powder, assorted coffee packs, and personal belongings in an apparent attempt to evade detection.
The seized contraband has an estimated value of ₱56,603,200.00.
Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno commended the efforts of the BOC-NAIA personnel and partner agencies, emphasizing the Bureau’s continued vigilance in protecting the country’s borders.
“This successful interdiction reflects our strengthened border protection measures and sustained coordination with our partner agencies. In line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., we remain firm in our commitment to prevent the entry of illegal drugs and ensure the safety and well-being of the Filipino people,” the Commissioner stated.
The operation was carried out by the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group in close coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
The confiscated substances will be turned over to the PDEA Laboratory Service for confirmatory examination, while inquest proceedings are being prepared.
The arrested individuals will face possible charges in violation of Section 4, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The BOC-NAIA, led by District Collector Atty. Yasmin Obillos-Mapa, continues to enhance its border protection operations through strengthened controls and close coordination with partner agencies.
