American wanted for sex crimes arrested in Zambales – BI

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said its agents arrested an overstaying American long wanted by federal authorities in Nevada for sex crimes.

In a statement, Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco identified the fugitive as 60-year-old Eduardo Rojas Minas, who was arrested Monday in Sta. Cruz, Zambales by operatives from the BI’s fugitive search unit (FSU).

Tansingco said Minas has been on the wanted list of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) since November 2006 when a warrant of arrest was issued against him by a Justice Court in Las Vegas township, Clark County Nevada.

Minas, however, eluded arrest as he fled to the Philippines a month earlier and has never left the country since then.

“He will thus be deported for overstaying and being an undesirable and undocumented alien. He no longer holds a valid passport since it already expired in Jan. 2013 and was not renewed,” Tansingco said.

Citing information obtained from the US authorities in Manila, BI-FSU acting chief Renell Ryan Sy disclosed that Minas was charged before the Nevada court with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of statutory sexual seduction.

Tansingco said that Minas will be perpetually barred from re-entering the Philippines following his crimes.

The alien fugitive is now detained at the BI holding facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending deportation proceedings.
