DAET, Camarines Norte—Bureau of Immigration (BI) intelligence agents arrested another foreign national misrepresenting himself as a Filipino.
The arrest follows the directive of President Ferdinand ‘Bong Bong’ Marcos, Jr. to ensure that foreign nationals staying in the country comply with existing laws.
Intelligence agents arrested Chinese man Wu Zhishi, 45, along J. Pimintel St., Purok 3, Brgy. V in Daet, Camarines Norte.
The operation was in coordination with government intelligence operatives, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and the Presidential Anti Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC).
Wu was said to have been using illegally-acquired government-issued documents and claiming to be a Filipino in various dealings in the area.
Agents posed as customers in his business and effected the arrest morning of June 25. He presented an expired Retiree’s Visa card, denying the use of a fake Philippine identity.
However, he was reported to have used Philippine identification cards to secure a firearm license.
Wu was immediately arrested and was later transferred to the PAOCC for physical custody. His legal custody remains with the BI as he undergoes deportation proceedings for violation of Philippine immigration laws.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado expressed concern on the seemingly prolific use of Philippine documents by illegal aliens.
“This poses as a risk to national security as these aliens are able to embed themselves in society, perhaps doing illegal activities by using someone else’s identity,” said Viado. He called on government agencies issuing Philippine documents to tighten measures to ensure that only legitimate Filipinos are able to secure Philippine IDs.
“We have raised this concern before and we are raising it again,” said Viado. “There is a need to review policies on the issuance of Philippine documents to prevent this from happening again,” he added.
