A total of 1,004 persons deprived of liberty were released by the Bureau of Corrections from June 13 to July 3 including the 90 PDLs who attended the culminating ceremony today at New Bilibid Compound in Muntinlupa City.
Bureau of Corrections Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. said this brings to 24,583 the total number of PDLs released under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The mode of releases for PDLs were due to:
* Acquittal – 61
* Granted probation – 16
* Habeas Corpus -16
* Parole – 94
* Bail Bond – 1
* Cash Bond – 1
* Expired sentence not covered by Department Order 652 – 459
* Expired sentence approved by the Secretary of Justice (covered by D.O. 652) -356
Under Department Order 652 issued last year by the Department of Justice that revises the rules and procedure in the release of PDLs with expired sentences, the release of all PDLs incarcerated in national penitentiaries with expired sentences shall be approved by the Director General of the BuCor or his duly authorized representative while the release of PDLs sentenced to life imprisonment or reclusion perpetua or those classified as high-risk/high-profile shall be implemented only upon prior approval of the Secretary of Justice.
The released PDLs were from the facilities of Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) – 52, CIW- Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) – 1, CIW- Mindanao – 10, Davao Prison and Penal Farm – 136, Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm – 109, Leyte Regional Prison – 50, New Bilibid Prison (NBP) – 256, NBP-Maximum – 79, NBP-Medium – 62, NBP-Minimum – 17, NBP-Reception and Diagnostic Center (RDC) – 9, Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm – 110 and San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm – 113.
