ITR Probe vs Sara Boosts Ill-gotten Wealth Claims –Chua

By Lane Afable, News Editor

Manila 3rd District Rep. Joel Chua said that the
probe on the income tax returns (ITRs) of Vice President Sara Duterte will bolster charges that she has amassed ill-gotten wealth.

Chua, who chairs the congressional committee on good government and public accountability, bared that the committee on justice intends to compare the ITRs of Duterte and her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, with their Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN), and the reports of the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

“We will compare all of these—the SALN, the AMLC, the SEC, and the BIR. This will further strengthen the allegation of ill-gotten wealth,” Chua said in an interview with Bilyonaryo News Channel.

“If it turns out in the ITRs that the income taxes paid are low, it would not match the billions of pesos coming in through transactions,” he added.

“Where did those billions in transactions come from?” Chua asked.

In AMLC report submitted to the justice committee, banks flagged a total of P6.77 billion in “covered and suspicious inflow and outflow transactions” made by the Duterte-Carpio couple from 2006 to 2025. It cited Inflows amounted to P4.4 billion, while outflows totaled P1.55 billion, leaving a balance of P2.8 billion.

In the clarificatory hearing, it was uncovered that Duterte declared no “cash on hand and in bank” in her SALNs for six years, from 2019 to 2024.

Their net worth rose from more than P7.25 million to P88.5 million in 2024.
