Oban: New NSA

Former Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Eduardo Oban Jr. was appointed as the National Security Adviser (NSA) by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. replacing Eduardo Año who resigned from post lately.

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro announced the appointment of Oban as the new NSA with the mandate responsible for national security priorities and ensuring continuity in the government’s efforts to keep the nation safe and secure.

“With his depth of experience, the President is confident that Secretary Oban will provide steady and capable leadership in advancing the country’s national security priorities and ensuring continuity in the government’s efforts to keep the nation safe and secure,” Castro said reading a statement from the Palace.

Oban, a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1979, has extensive experience in military operations, defense planning, and national security.

Oban previously served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans (J5) and as head of the Visiting Forces Agreement Commission.

Malacañang said Año has “decided to retire from public service after decades of continuous service in government and the military.”

The Palace thanked Año for his “dedicated and distinguished service,” citing his role in strengthening the country’s national security framework, advancing counterterrorism efforts, and ensuring coordination across the security sector amid evolving regional and global challenges.

“His leadership has helped maintain stability and protect the welfare of our citizens,” Malacañang said.
