In a meaningful demonstration of support for women’s empowerment and rehabilitation, Bureau of Corrections Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang extended his agency’s full commitment to the Philippine Women Judges Association (PWJA), under the leadership of Supreme Court Associate Justice Amy C. Lazaro-Javier.
This assurance came during the opening of a poignant art exhibit titled “HER BRUSH, HER STORY: The Hues of a Woman,” held at the Manila Clock Tower Museum. The exhibit showcased 35 compelling artworks created by women Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) from various BuCor facilities across the nation, running from June 13 to July 18.
This initiative not only highlights the transformative power of the arts in fostering reformation and rehabilitation but also serves as a crucial platform for women incarcerated in correctional facilities to express their personal narratives, struggles, and hopes through their creations.
By providing visibility to these artistic expressions, the exhibit invites the public and stakeholders within the justice sector to witness firsthand the positive outcomes of reformation programs implemented within correctional institutions. It emphasizes the importance of acknowledging the humanity of PDLs and advocates for opportunities that allow them to reclaim their identities and aspirations through the healing power of art.
