your New Year’s resolution
Representative Brian Raymund Yamsuan has exhorted fellow employees of the House of Representatives to commit to elevating the standards of public service and governance their New Year’s resolution for 2025.
Speaking at the House flag-raising ceremony on the first Monday of the year, Yamsuan expressed confidence over the capability and determination of his fellow workers in the congressional institution to fulfill this resolution.
“Anuman ang inyong posisyon, sa bawat taong kinakausap ninyo o papel na inyong pinipirmahan, ipakita ninyo (Whatever your position, in every person you talk to or paper you sign, show them) that the House of the Representatives is truly for the Filipino people. Let your words and actions reflect the standard of public service that defines this august chamber,” said Yamsuan in his inspirational message at the ceremony hosted by the House Legislative Information Resources Management Department.
Also present at the flag raising ceremony were House Deputy Secretaries General Dante Robert Maling, Romulo Miral Jr., Jennelyn Go-Sison, Jose Ma. Antonio Tuaño, Grace Andres and Annalou Nachura.
“Each interaction, no matter how small, and each decision, no matter how routine, contributes to the trust and faith that our people place in us,” Yamsuan told his fellow House employees.
Yamsuan said he is aware that fulfilling this resolution would not be easy following the series of challenges that the House has faced in 2024 and would still be facing this year.
Rather than looking at these challenges as hardships, Yamsuan urged House employees to view them as opportunities for growth.
“This is evident under the leadership of our hardworking House Speaker, Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and Secretary General Reginald Velasco. The challenges that we faced last year became opportunities for us to rise above and leave a mark of excellence,” Yamsuan said.
“So today, as you return to your stations and begin a new workweek and work year, I encourage you to welcome this new year with a mindset that radiates joy and fresh hope: hope for a better day, hope for a better year, and hope for a better future for all the Filipino people,” he added.
As he himself came from humble beginnings, Yamsuan said he can relate with the difficulties experienced by his fellow workers in government and know how to value their potential to deliver the mission of serving the Filipino people with the highest level of excellence and integrity.
Yamsuan recalled his hardships of completing his college studies through an athletic scholarship, while helping his parents augment the family income by taking on odd jobs as a crew member of a fastfood chain and donut shop, and sometimes, as a taxi driver.
His career of more than three decades in government began when he was tapped by the late Senate President Edgardo Angara to work in the Senate as a media and political affairs officer while he was still in college. Yamsuan was later recruited by the late Sen. Tessie Aquino Oreta as her chief of staff.
After his stint at the Senate, Yamsuan was appointed Assistant Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) under then Secretary Ronnie Puno.
Yamsuan’s began his career in the legislature in 2019 as Deputy Secretary General of the House under then Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano.
In the 19th Congress, Yamsuan currently represents the Bicol Saro Partylist. He will be vying for a fresh congressional seat in the May midterm elections as representative of Parañaque City’s 2nd District.
