The Bureau of Corrections transferred today 300 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) to the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
This brings to 11,227 the number of PDLs transferred outside of NBP since the term of Bucor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr.
Catapang said the transfer commenced this morning aimed to address the pressing need for decongestion at NBP while simultaneously bolstering the manpower requirements of the penal farm for ongoing Agro Institutional Projects.
This strategic move, Catapang said also aligns with the preparation efforts for the anticipated closure of NBP in 2028.
The PDLs were escorted by 100 BuCor personnel, led by Chief Correctional Inspector Alberto Andrada tasked to oversee the movement and ensure the safety and security throughout the journey.
Support were also wprovided by the Philippine National Police (PNP) units from Muntinlupa, the Highway Patrol Group (HPG), and the Coast Guard, ensuring comprehensive coverage for the convoy.
The transportation utilized a fleet including ten commercial buses, two HPG motorcycles, one mobile patrol unit from PNP Munti, one BuCor SWAT trooper vehicle, and a backup L300, facilitating a well-coordinated and efficient transfer process.
